When?
November 15, 2009

Where?
Race starts at the East Mall on UT Campus,Austin.

What time?
Registration starts at 7:00 AM. Run/Walk kicks off at 8:00 AM. Festivities continue till noon.

How do I get to the venue?
The race starts at the fountain at the intersection of San Jacinto Blvd & E 23rd St Austin. Directions to the venue are available here

What about Parking?

The parking lots (lots 70, 80 and 99) at the intersection of Robert Dedman Dr. and Red River St. are available for parking during weekends. Click here for the location of the parking lots on google maps and walking directions from the lots to the race start point.

Driving directions to the parking lots:
When heading South on I35:
Take exit 235B toward Manor Rd
Turn right at Clyde Littlefield Dr/Manor Rd
Turn left at Red River Street
Turn right at Robert Deadman Drive.

When heading North on I35:
Take exit 235B toward Manor Rd
Turn left at Clyde Littlefield Dr/Manor Rd
Turn left at Red River Street
Turn right at Robert Deadman Drive.

Have you organized this event in the past?

Yes, 2009 marks the ninth year Vibha is organizing this event in Austin.

[edit] The Run/Walk

I cannot participate in the 5K run/walk, can I donate instead?
We would love your participation. But, we welcome your donation and are very much thankful for it. Click here to pledge an amount and support Vibha's cause.

Are donations tax-deductible?
Yes. Receipts will be mailed to your house.

How does The Dream Mile 5K Walk/Run work?
Walkers and runners are all ages and participants can walk as individuals, families, groups, work teams and more. Refreshments are available before the Walk and Run and throughout the course, and volunteers are stationed along the Walk route to insure that walkers stay on course.

How long is the Run/Walk?
The trail is 5km long.

Can my kids participate?
Yes. Given that Vibha’s vision is to provide a brighter future for underprivileged children, it makes perfect sense to get your children involved. The Carnival provides a wide range of games and activities for children.

What should I wear?
Comfortable shoes, a hat, sunglasses and extra sunscreen. Serious runners wishing to participate in the Race should wear their running gear.

Is the Run/Walk a race?
Yes, The Dream Mile 2009 is a race. Winners in each category will receive prizes.

What happens if it rains on the day of the event?
The event goes on. If it rains hard and it becomes too difficult to run/walk, the route will be shortened.

How do I register for the Dream Mile?
Register online
Register at the venue on the day of the event at 7:30AM.
Register by mailing in a completed registration form.
Send us an e-mail for more info.

Can I register/pay on the day of the event?
Yes, it is possible to pay on the day of the event. However, we prefer that participants pre-register since that will give us a clear idea of the expected number of participants. Also the cost of registration is 5$ more on Event day.

What is a Pledge?
A pledge is an amount that is donated by an individual who wishes to support our cause.

How can I raise pledges?

Are pledges a must?
No, they are not a must, but pledges are a very important part of the Run/Walk. Pledges constitute a significant portion of the funds raised through the Run/Walk. Pledging is one way of showing you support the cause. Becoming a fundraiser is another – not only are you saying you wish to support the cause , but you also help us spread the word by trying to involve your friends and family.

How is the money raised through pledges used?
The money you raise through the pledge drive is used to directly fund child development projects.

We expect around 300 participants including children and 50-100 other volunteers and spectators.

[edit] Door Step School

The mission of the Door Step School(DSS) is to use innovative programs to bring education to the poor children in urban areas.

DSS conducts classes close to where they live or work. It identifies communities, like migrant workers' children, street children, fishermens' children etc, and tries to establish Non Formal Education classes for them.

Center for Child Protection
Founded in 1989, the Center for Child Protection is the first stop for children who are suspected victims of sexual and physical abuse and for children who have witnessed a violent crime. An accredited children's advocacy center serving Travis County, children are referred to the Center exclusively by law enforcement and Child Protective Services, and each child is brought to the Center by a caregiver for a recorded interview, forensic medical exam, counseling, and crisis intervention.
