"Trivia Guru: An Indian Quiz Contest"

Does your knowledge of Indian art & culture impress your friends?
Think you know a lot about Indian sports?
Are you a Bollywood or South Indian movie fanatic?
Then come test your Indian Quotient (I.Q.)!

Vibha Austin invites you take part in this fun and engaging game show that tests your knowledge about India. Trivia questions will include topics on Indian art and culture, sports, and entertainment. There will also be prizes for the winning team! You are encouraged to bring your family and friends along for the show. Snacks (chai & samosas) will also be available at the event. All proceeds will benefit several child development projects supported by Vibha.

[edit] Basic Rules and Format of the Game

  • Each team should consist of three players. You are encouraged to participate even if you do not have a team. We will form one for you.
  • Questions will be based on Indian art & culture, mythology, history, sports, and entertainment.
  • The quiz contest will be composed of one single round where teams will be asked a range of questions by the Quiz Master. At the end of the quizzing, the team with the highest score will be deemed the winning team.
  • There will be a one-hour round of questions followed by a half hour break. Quizzing will resume after that for another 30-60 mins, depending on how close the scoring is between teams.
  • Teams will be presented with questions on any of the categories mentioned above ranging in the levels of difficulty. There will also be a Special Round of questions that will be worth more points than the General Round.
  • "Ask a Friend" - Each team will be allowed to ask a friend in the audience for help in answering a question. The teams will be allowed to "Ask a Friend" up to 4 times during the quiz show. The friend needn't be the same person every time.
  • Audience participation is encouraged! There will be times when the audience will be tested on some questions for fun!
  • Prizes will be awarded to the winning team.

Below are a few sample questions from different categories ranging in the levels of difficulty.

Sample question 1: During the churning of the oceans, Vishnu assumed the form of a beautiful woman, and through sleight of hand, ensured that the gods got the Amrit. Jayant, the son of Indra, removed the pot from the quarreling gods and demons and ran away with it. While fleeing, he rested at four places, where he set down the pitcher, drank a little, and let a few drops of nectar spill to the ground. What were the four places Jayant rested at?

Sample question 2: Which one of the following is NOT an Amitabh Bachhan movie? Mr. Natwarlal, Khuda Gawah, Baazigar, Sholay

Sample question 3: The only characters in the Harry Potter novels of Indian origin are Parvati and Padma Patil. J.K. Rowling later admitted that these names were chosen to express her admiration for which great literary work?

Sample question 4: The hit Indian film "Lagaan" (2001) featured a bowler with a physical deformity. Indian cricket had a famous bowler with a physical deformity, who was he?
