Umpire's decision will be final in all matters. The main umpire will be neutral, the leg-umpire will be from the batting side. The main umpire can overrule the leg umpire if necessary.
Rules regarding late arrivals:
- Both captains should be present for the toss at the match start time. The team whose captain is absent loses the toss.
- A minimum of 4 players need to be present for a team to start play. Else the team is considered absent.
- One over will be deducted for every 5 minutes that a team is late. A team will forfeit the match if it is late by 40 minutes or more.
- In case both teams are late by 40 minutes or more, the match will be declared a tie.
Rules regarding group matches:
- There are 7 groups. The winner of each group qualifies for the Quarter Final. The 8th team for QF will be chosen based on the overall run-rate across all groups
- 2 points will be awarded for each win (ties are not allowed, see match tie-breaking rules below).
- In case of teams tied at the same point level the following tie-breaking rules will apply:
- Head to Head (in case of a 2-way tie)
- Net run rate.
- If multiple teams have same points and net run rate - a roll of a die will decide the qualifier.
OWING TO THE VAGARIES OF WEATHER, THERE MAY BE CHANGES TO THE SCHEDULE. IN SUCH CASES, TEAMS MAY BE ASKED TO COMPLETE THEIR GAMES ON THE NEXT DAY.GAMES ABANDONED IN THE MIDDLE DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER WILL BE RESUMED FROM WHERE THEY WERE STOPPED.
All matches will be played with "taped tennis" cricket balls. We will provide bats, wickets and balls. You are encouraged bring your own equipment (especially bats) as well. The matches will be played at IF on Whitaker fields. The games will be played as per the MCC Laws of Cricket with some exceptions. The exceptions and other tournament rules are as follows:
- Each team will atleast get to play 2 matches.
- Each game shall be played between two teams of eight players each.
- Each game shall have a maximum of Eight 6-ball overs per side.
- Each bowler shall bowl a maximum of 2 overs.
- The overs shall all be bowled from one end of the pitch, as determined by the umpires.
- There will be no LBWs or Leg byes. There will be NO run outs on a leg bye.
- There are runs for byes.
- Umpires are instructed to apply very strict and consistent interpretation in regard to this Law in order to prevent negative bowling wide of the wicket.
- Any offside or legside delivery which in the opinion of the umpire does not give the batsman a reasonable opportunity to score shall be called a wide.
- A penalty of one run for a wide shall be scored. This penalty shall stand in addition to any other runs which are scored or awarded. All runs, which are run or result from a wide ball, which is not a no ball, shall be scored wide balls.
- The umpire shall mark with a chalk points 30 inches from the off stump and 12 inches from the leg stump, to help make the decision easier. The umpire has the final work on each call.
- A ball shall be deemed a no-ball if:
- the bowler has over-stepped the popping crease, or
- the ball is a full-toss above the waist height of the batsman in normal stance, or
- the ball is above the shoulder of the batsman (no bouncers allowed).
- Substitute fielders shall be permitted, for injured players - if they cannot return to the game. The substitute cannot bowl or bat. Only one substitute fielder is permitted per team. The teams should submit the playing 8 and the name of the substitute fielder at the beginning of the match.
- In the event of a tied match, when both teams have an identical number of runs at the end of the allotted 8 overs - the winner shall be determined using the following tie-breakers
- fewer number of wickets lost by each side
- if still equal - higher number of runs scored at the end of the 5 over mark.
- if still equal - fewer number of wickets lost at the 5 over mark.
- if still equal - a coin toss.
- Players shall be allowed to use any regulation cricket equipment including gloves (batting and keeping), pads (leg and elbow), guards, etc.
- Boundaries shall be defined and explained to rival captains at the start of every game.
- All tournament rules are subject to change by the tournament committee and/or the umpires.
- No free hits.
Some MCC rules to remember:
- Both wides and no-balls shall count as extra runs and an extra ball will have to bowled in the over.
- Any runs (byes, off the bat) scored off the wides or no-balls will be credited as well.
- A batsman can be stumped off a wide ball, or run-out off a wide or a no-ball.
- A ball shall be deemed a dead ball if the ball is pitched more than once before crossing the batsman taking the strike. And an extra ball shall be bowled.
- In a situation where the stumps are knocked down and the batsmen are looking to run an extra run (in an over throw situation), if there is a possibility of a run-out again - the fielders have to fix the stumps back in an upright normal position and then knock the stumps down again.
- Mankading-out is allowed: The bowler must take the bails off before he is into his final stride. If he takes the bails off at the end of his bowling action the non-striker is not out.
