[edit] Cricket Tournament Rules and Regulations
Umpires/Organizers decision will be final in all matters.
All matches will be played with "tennis" cricket balls. We will provide wickets and balls. The games will be played as per the MCC Laws of Cricket with some exceptions. The exceptions and other tournament rules are as follows:
[edit] Tournament Format
- The tournament will be played to a knock-out format.
- Each game shall be played between two teams of eleven players each.
- Each game shall have a maximum of Twelve 6-ball overs per side.
- There is no restriction on the number of bowlers in each team.
- Each bowler can bowl a maximum of 3 overs.
- The overs shall all be bowled from one end of the pitch, as determined by the umpires.
- In the event of a tied match, when both teams have an identical number of runs at the end of the allotted 12 overs - the winner shall be determined using the following tie-breakers
- fewer number of wickets lost by each side
- if still equal - higher number of runs scored at the end of the 5 over mark.
- if still equal - fewer number of wickets lost at the 5 over mark.
- if still equal - bowl out.
[edit] Teams and players
- Each team will be permitted to register a maximum of 15 players, although only 11 can bat or bowl in any one game. All 11 players and the substitute 4 players if any should be registered and should have signed the waiver form and should not have played in any other team. The teams should submit the playing 11 and the name of the substitute fielder at the beginning of the match.
- Each team must present themselves to the organizers at least 15 minutes before the start of the match.
- Each team should have at least 8 players on the field (and registered) to begin playing a match. A grace period of 10 minutes shall be granted to the team from the scheduled start time to produce the players; failure to do so shall result in the opposition team getting a walkover.
- If a team decides to play with 8-10 players, then the additional player(s) will be permitted to join the game only if they present themselves before the end of the 5th over.
- Every match will be played under 2 hours. So each team is expected to complete their quota of 12 overs within 55 minutes. If at any point in the game, the umpires feels that the bowling side might take more time to finish their quota, they can reduce the drinks breaks or the breaks between overs.
- Players shall be allowed to use any regulation cricket equipment including gloves (batting and keeping), pads (leg and elbow), loin-guards, etc.
- Substitute fielders shall be permitted, for injured players - if they cannot return to the game. The substitute cannot bowl or bat.
- If a player retires in the middle of the match for some overs, then the player has to spend as many overs on the field before the player can bowl.
[edit] Other Rules
- There will be no LBWs and leg byes.
- A ball bowled shall be deemed a wide, by the umpire, if at the point at which it crosses the batsman (in normal batting stance and hasn't touched the ball) it is:
- more than 30 inches away from the off stump on the offside, or
- on the leg side
- The umpire has the final word on each call.
- A ball shall be deemed a no-ball if:
- the bowler has over-stepped the popping crease, or
- the ball is a full-toss above the waist height of the batsman - in normal stance, or
- the ball is rising above the shoulder of the batsman in a normal batting stance.
- The batsman is allowed a freehit in the case of no-ball as long as the no-ball is not caused due to overstepping the bowling crease.
- A ball shall be deemed a dead ball if the ball has more than one bounce. And an extra ball shall be bowled.
- Boundaries shall be defined and explained to rival captains at the start of every game.
- All tournament rules are subject to change by the tournament committee and/or the umpires.
- If the tournament extends due to unforeseen circumstances (weather, etc), matches could be played on the Sunday of the following week.
- The organizers have the authority to override the umpire decision.
[edit] Some MCC rules to remember
- Both wides and no-balls shall count as extra runs and an extra ball will have to bowled in the over.
- Any runs (byes, off the bat) scored off the wides or no-balls will be credited as well.
- A batsman can be stumped off a wide ball, or run-out off a wide. Stumping is void in case of a no-ball.
- In a situation where the stumps are knocked down and the batsmen are looking to run an extra run (in an over throw situation), if there is a possibility of a run-out again any fielder has to (i) replace a bail or bails on top of the stumps.
- (ii) put back one or more stumps into the ground where the wicket originally stood, then knock the stumps down again.
